Art’s leadership in championing a sustainable economy for Coastal First Nations includes creation of The Great Bear Forest Carbon Project. The unique project offers communities the potential for a renewed coastal economy through the sale of 394,000 carbon tonnes of offsets, raising $3.6 million since 2012, while helping to conserve the largest, most ecologically significant temperate rainforest in the world. His efforts have supported the creation of Marine Use Plans that view demands for ocean uses in an integrated way, ensuring our oceans sustain coastal communities for generations to come and provide certainty and clarity to First Nations and stakeholders alike.
