MaRS Cleantech, part of the MaRS Discovery District, works closely with entrepreneurs and investors to build globally competitive companies that are addressing key challenges in energy, water, agri-tech, advanced materials and manufacturing, and creating solutions for smart cities. There are two MaRS Cleantech sub-teams: Jon and Jane lead the team that helps grow high-impact ventures and Ron and Ian lead the team that strives to remove complex technology adoption barriers in the energy sector. The entire team supports growing cleantech ventures by connecting them to partners, customers, investors, talent and capital – ventures that have created 1456 jobs and, in the past three years alone, generated $251M in revenue. Through collaboration with cross-industry stakeholders, the entire MaRS Cleantech team is fostering the adoption of technologies in Canada and leveraging those successes into international markets, and helping foster Canadian success stories proving a low carbon economy can be a highly prosperous economy.
Partner, GoodmansAn advocate, investor, early adopter and effective evangelist for clean technologies and action on climate change, Richard’s legal practice focuses on renewable energy and assisting clients with cleantech investments, supported by his personal experience as an investor in the ArcTern Ventures cleantech LP, and in a number of solar projects. An active proponent of the Green Energy Act, Richard has served as a Director and Vice Chair of the Community Power Fund, was the founding Chair of the Ontario Citizens Coalition for Clean Affordable Energy, and is active in the Climate Change Lawyers Network. He has been involved in the development of public policy options to mitigate GhG emissions including collaborating with Jeremy Rifkin on a Third Industrial Revolution (TIR) roadmap to a post-carbon economy for Ontario and drafting of renewable energy laws for a Middle East country.

Mike and Greg have invested in, led, or been part of syndicated deals which have provided more than $25M of capital to early stage cleantech companies in the last 3 years, including: Smart Energy Instruments Inc., Pliteq Inc., Pyrowave Inc., Clear Blue Technologies Inc. and, Mirexus Inc. They are also members of the GreenSky President's Club, an active Toronto angel network with over 100 members providing seed stage investments to young cleantech companies.
