Tyler Elm leads sustainability at Canadian Tire as an innovation strategy that generates competitive advantage and bottom-line results and is integrated into financial reporting. In 2011, he and his team collaborated with the business to deliver 438 projects, avoiding $4,208,376 in costs, 6,931 tonnes of emissions and 2,450 tonnes of waste. The company’s financial disclosures now include four consecutive quarters of sustainability results.

Tyler is one of only 3 people to have been named to Canada’s Clean50 in both years.

 

Commitments for 2013: In September 2012 at the Clean50 Summit, most attendees made public commitments for things they would do to "further sustainability" over the next 12 months. Elm's commitments were:

- I will help to define a mission statement for the Clean50
- I will facilitate a discussion in my industry about key sustainability metrics
- I will publish five success stories of sustainable business
- Working with key stakeholders to identify innovative ideas using sustainability as a lens

In Addition: Honourees identified good ideas they liked and would do their best to support. Elm's "Likes" were:
