Honourable Wes Sheridan

Minister of Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs, Government of Prince Edward Island

Long known as a world leader in farming potatoes, PEI has tranformed itself into a world leader in farming wind! As Minister responsible for the PEI Energy Corporation, Hon. Wes Sheridan championed the development of the Hermanville Clearspring Wind Farm, the latest addition to the province's impressive wind energy generation portfolio. The 30 MW wind farm will produce approximately 114 million kWh of emission-free electricity per year for at least the next 25 years. With HC now on the grid, Prince Edward Island is positioned as a world leader in wind power, with approximately 30% of its electricity coming from wind.  Some of the proceeds are retained in the host community.  The Windfarm displaces 80,000 tonnes of GhG.

Michael Goeres

Executive Director, Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment

As head of CCME’s Secretariat, Michael plays a leadership role in facilitating and obtaining consensus on Canada-wide approaches to major environmental issues including air quality, water, land use and remediation, climate change adaptation and waste management. This produces common federal/provincial/territorial collective policies, approaches, guidelines and best management practices. For example, every government except Quebec has agreed to implement the Air Quality Management System, and every government is implementing the Canada-wide Action Plan for Extended Producer Responsibility.  Most recently, all provinces have formed a united front in agreeing that climate change discussions are now an essential part of our national energy plan conversation.
