Celesa Horvath

Principal, Ventus Development Services Inc. and Chair, Southwest Alberta Sustainable Community Initiative

Celesa is a veteran executive advisor on corporate responsibility, sustainability, and environmental affairs in Canada and abroad. From working with major corporations – including EnCana, Cenovus, Nexen, the CAA, the Prince Rupert Port Authority, and the Calgary Airport Authority, among others – she has helped her clients adopt and integrate corporate responsibility best practices, advance renewable energy projects (including wind, run-of-river hydro, biomass, and the first tidal energy project on the west coast), driving improved environmental and sustainability performance in Canada’s energy, natural resource, and infrastructure sectors for over 20 years. Through her pro bono work on-line and in the community, Celesa serves as a resource and mentor for other corporate responsibility practitioners, youth, and the non-profit sector.


Commitments for 2013: In September 2012 at the Clean50 Summit, most attendees made public commitments for things they would do to "further sustainability" over the next 12 months. Horvath's commitments were:

- I will commit to peer (Clean50) mentoring and support
- I will mentor one (or more) person(s) building a career in sustainability
- I will mentor 1-2 individuals on sustainable development
- I will mentor high potential to help them achieve their sustainable ambitions

In Addition: Honourees identified good ideas they liked and would do their best to support. Horvath's "Likes" were:

- I will help to define a mission statement for the Clean50
- I will commit to collaborating with at least one other Clean50 member across disciplines
- To foster X-Clean50 collaboration, I commit to creating a list of both my: 1). expertise and 2) areas where I could use help, and post both to the Clean50 Linked In Group
- Write an article telling my company’s story to promote awareness of barriers
- Participate in a clean-tech roadshow to Canadian municipalities
- I will challenge my CEO to suggest to board that corporate sustainability measures/performances be part of my bonus/compensation and his/hers
- I will contact and challenge my member of parliament on how they are measuring and improving sustainability
- I will choose a small business and mentor them to help them implement sustainability measurement, strategy, programming, etc
