2013 - Clean Technology

Clean Technology

Dr. Peter Tsantrizos

CEO, Terragon Environmental Technologies

Peter developed the concept of “Zero-Waste Discharge Habitat through Integrated Resource Recovery,” in which all materials that are normally considered waste are transformed into resources–like energy, water and bio-char–at the site where the waste is generated. To enable the concept, he invented and developed MAGS, a gasification-based appliance that transforms any organic waste–including plastics, oily sludge, paper, food and cloth, alongside others–into bio-char, water and thermal energy. Integrating MAGS with WETT (wastewater treatment to reusable water) produced a fully integrated resource recovery approach for any habitat–of particular value immediately to small communities and through export.

Commitments for 2013: In September 2012 at the Clean50 Summit, most attendees made public commitments for things they would do to "further sustainability" over the next 12 months. Tsantrizos's commitments were:

- I will commit to collaborating with at least one other Clean50 member across disciplines
- To foster X-Clean50 collaboration, I commit to creating a list of both my: 1). expertise and 2) areas where I could use help, and post both to the Clean50 Linked In Group
- Encourage other innovators to overcome barriers
- I am going to lead by example

In Addition: Honourees identified good ideas they liked and would do their best to support. Tsantrizos's "Likes" were:

- I will commit to peer (Clean50) mentoring and support
- I will commit to educating some person every week
- I will seek out and nominate new individuals deserving of the Clean50 award
- I will build sustainable innovation partnership
- I will work through my industry (or other sector) organization to share best practice and identify synergies
- I will mentor 1-2 individuals on sustainable development
- I will mentor high potential to help them achieve their sustainable ambitions
- I will champion employees in my organization and family, friends to challenge my MP on how they are measuring and improving sustainability
