Anne de Bortoli, Ph.D.
Metals don’t lie, even when marketing claims do, which is why Anne and her team built MetalliCan, an open-access database structuring fragmented environmental, social and production data from 270 Canadian mining and metal sites. Since 2024, she has secured over $600,000 across four competitive grants while managing $1.7 million in research funding, publishing seven peer-reviewed articles including one in Nature Sustainability on metal bottlenecks across 110 IPCC transition scenarios, and supervising 18 students and postdocs. Appointed to Canada’s Net-Zero Advisory Body, she advises the federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change, while contributing to UNEP work on critical minerals. Her north star: a fair, science-based, sustainable net-zero transition that stays within planetary boundaries.
