Brent Kopperson

Founder, Windfall Ecology Centre

In 2006, Brent and Windfall piloted a landmark community wide energy efficiency housing retrofit project with the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. The project, believed to be the first of its kind, engaged an entire First Nation community in the assessment and retrofitting of their family homes. Windfall went on to coordinate delivery of an expanded pilot in five other First Nation communities. The program combines education, energy efficiency assessments and housing retrofits and addresses indoor air quality and other health issues. In 2012, community wide housing retrofits will begin rolling out to all 134 Ontario First Nation communities. Brent is a founding director and past chair of both the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association (OSEA) and the Community Power Fund, which led the Green Energy Act Alliance in achieving fundamental changes to Ontario’s electricity system through the creation of the Green Energy and Economy Act.
