Chris Severson-Baker, M.A.

Executive Director, Pembina Institute

Few people can say their fingerprints are on Canada’s most significant climate policies of the decade, but Chris comes close. He leads a 60-person team across five cities and a nine-million-dollar budget at the Pembina Institute, one of the country’s most trusted, evidence-based voices in a polarized policy landscape. Over the past two years alone, his work has helped shape strengthened federal methane regulations targeting a 75 percent reduction by 2030 and ensured that federal and provincial electricity policies drive down emissions towards a net-zero grid. He has also backed projects that have displaced more than 140 million litres of diesel in remote and Indigenous communities. With around 6000 Pembina media citations per year, Chris has proven that policy wonks can still make the front page.
