Alberta based renewable energy developments are particularly difficult to finance,  as there are no supporting, government backed power purchase contracts.  Despite this, Dan and team persevered, and Greengate has successfully developed 450 MW of operating wind projects, including most recently, the 300 MW Blackspring Ridge, which is Western Canada’s largest, representing nearly $1 billion of investments in wind energy,  expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20,000,000 tonnes over 25 years and provide a clean source of power to approximately 200,000 homes. To overcome the financing obstacles, Dan, most creatively, worked with California regulators in a first-ever transaction to sell Canadian green power credits to PG&E of California.
