Dr. Hadi Mokarizadeh, PhD
Oil sands wastewater is one of the most challenging water treatment issues in the country, and Hadi has spent his research career to addressing it. Through the University of Alberta’s NSERC Senior Industrial Research Chair in Oil Sands Tailings Water Treatment, he helped develop advanced oxidation and photocatalysis systems that achieved over 90 percent removal of naphthenic acids in bench-scale testing. This work helps advance promising treatment technologies toward real-world application. At Parsons, he now supports municipal and industrial water and wastewater projects across Canada, while chairing the International Water Association Young Water Professionals Canada Chapter, which connects and supports early-career professionals across the water sector and leads initiatives related to SDG 6.
