Emily McMillan, PhD

Executive Director, Nature Canada

Leaving no stone unturned, whilst leading the organization’s vision to “discover, defend, and restore nature”, Emily has effectively collaborated with 800 different groups within Nature Canada’s “Nature Network” and through a “NatureBus” tour, rallied thousands of individual Canadians to write letters, all to push government to deliver on Canada’s commitment to safeguard 30% of its lands and waters, resulting in a soon-to-be-released comprehensive federal biodiversity action plan with accountability legislation baked in. Other stones: Aware of lack of diversity in the conservation sector, the “Work To Grow” program resulted in 341 jobs for BIPOC youth in 2022 and the “NatureHood” program flourished, connecting marginalized communities, 1190 schools, and 66,036 adults, youth, and children with nearby nature between 2021 and 2023.
