With over two decades in decarbonizing industry—a sector responsible for over 40% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions—Emily’s work has been critical, with very few consultants sharing her ability to decarbonize the mining sector and all its complexity. She has led efforts that cut 420,000 tonnes of CO2e over two years, roughly the impact of removing 129,000 vehicles from the roads annually. Her guidance has influenced companies with a combined market capitalization of $171 billion across 47 facilities in 16 countries. Notably, Emily has developed decarbonization plans for 5% of the global gold mining industry. In 2017, she founded Thorn Associates to focus on reducing heavy industry’s emissions, especially mining, which needs to boost its mineral output by 300% by 2030 to achieve energy transition goals. Her expertise also fosters equity, diversity, and inclusion through her volunteer work with StepUp, which supports Canada’s Paris Accord commitments.
