George Benson, MAP

Overseeing the development of one of the first-ever assessments for climate-driven human population displacement in Canada and the US, engaging numerous government departments and other agencies, George helped to ensure inclusion of climate displacement into the BC Climate Adaptation Strategy in 2021. Then, George led the development and now leads the implementation of Vancouver’s Zero Emissions Economic Transition Action Plan (ZEETAP), the first North American climate emergency plan by and for an economic development agency. ZEETAP is an innovative, three-year plan to support businesses and workers in halving their emissions by 50% by 2030 and to reach net zero before 2050, while increasing prosperity, justice, and equity.
