Howard is driving the advancement Greenfield’s vision of a future when there are less than 350 PPM (parts-per-million) of CO2 in the atmosphere by advancing sustainable fuel and chemical innovations. One project achieves the industry’s lowest carbon fuel ethanol by displacing 15% of the natural gas used at their Varennes biofuel plant with biogas from the SEMECS anaerobic digestion plant that Greenfield operates – where 40,000 tons of organic waste is sourced from 27 local municipalities and diverted from landfills to make biogas. Greenfield is also paying a premium to corn farmers to collect data which is audited by 3rd parties to encourage more sustainable corn farming practices.
