Isabelle Hurley, MSc
Canada’s nature policy file has had four different federal Environment Ministers over the past five years, and Isabelle has advised each one. She currently serves as Director of Policy (Nature) to Minister Julie Dabrusin. She was lead political advisor on Canada’s Nature Strategy to 2030 and co-led the work behind the $3.8-billion Force of Nature implementation plan. She also led the political work behind major conservation initiatives, including the establishment of Canada’s 48th National Park in Prince Edward Island, its sixth National Marine Conservation Area on BC’s Central Coast, and the Northwest Territories Project Finance for Permanence agreement, which will protect 2 percent of Canada’s land. She also oversaw and steered the Canada-Quebec agreement protecting boreal caribou, making sure Canada’s nature commitments have somewhere to put down roots.
