James Jenkins, M.A
James has helped push Indigenous clean-energy procurement policy across nine provinces and territories toward stronger community participation. He has championed minimum equity thresholds and community-benefit incentives for Indigenous participation in power projects. That advocacy has helped shape Calls for Power in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. His approach: sit down directly with planning tables and government officials, share proven models from other jurisdictions, and back them with technical advisory agreements with utilities such as BC Hydro. Since 2016, Indigenous Clean Energy has become the only national organization representing Indigenous clean-energy leaders, connecting members through a biannual gathering and the ICE Network, which has done its share of ice-breaking along the way.
