As head of BC’s Climate Action Secretariat, James Mack has played a leadership role in implementing a government-wide approach to BC’s policies around climate change. That includes implementing North American’s most comprehensive price on carbon through the Revenue Neutral Carbon Tax and North America’s first Carbon Neutral Government. The results are evident. From 2007 to 2011, while BC’s population and GDP have increased beyond the Canadian average, BC’s emissions have decreased by more than 5%. BC’s use of all main types of fossil fuels has also decreased. There are also growing signs of a green economy emerging, including the most active district energy market in Canada and twice the national adoption rate of hybrid vehicles.
