Jean-François Chalifoux
Insurers spend their days pricing risk; Jean-François decided Beneva should also spend its time reducing it. Under his leadership, nearly $3 billion now flows into green bonds, renewable energy, and sustainable infrastructure, all while dropping portfolio carbon intensity by roughly 39 percent and operational emissions by about 51 percent. Beneva has earned Science Based Targets initiative approval, committed to net zero by 2040, and excluded fossil fuel extraction and expansion from its investment policy entirely. As co-president of Québec Capitale Climat alongside Université Laval’s rector, Jean-François has convened CEOs across two climate summits drawing 750 participants, turning boardroom ambition into a coordinated, province-wide push.
