Jean-François Verret
Vice President -Glencore Nickel - Mine Raglan, Mine Raglan
Running a mine above the Arctic Circle leaves little room for experiments, which is what makes Jean-François’s decarbonization work at Mine Raglan so striking. He led the delivery of a 6 MW wind farm paired with a 3 MW battery system on an isolated Arctic grid, now supplying 10 to 15 percent of site electricity, cutting diesel use by 4.4 million litres and emissions by roughly 12,400 tonnes of CO2e a year, without sacrificing reliability. He then led the Sivumut expansion and the opening of the Anuri Mine, extending operations for more than twenty years, securing over 1,000 jobs, deepening relationships with Nunavik communities and strengthening Canada’s supply of the nickel the global energy transition depends on.
