For decades the fossil fuel industry has insisted that “oil is in everything” and we “can’t survive without it”. Proving that statement wrong, Jeff and the scientists at EcoSynthetix bet the farm and focused their efforts on the development of 5 key products, one of which is a bio-based replacement for formaldehyde; a non-renewable, known carcinogen that industry uses to hold wood panels and flooring together. “Durabind” is now used by Swiss Krono, one of the world’s largest panel manufacturers – and has allowed IKEA to cut the carbon footprint attributed to its glues by 40% while simultaneously making their products safer for consumers. Simultaneously proving that doing good is also good for business, the company ranked #14 on the TSX for shareholder returns over 3 years, and grew 33% in 2021.
