Every year, 58 billion coffee cups go to landfill worldwide. They are recyclable, but traditional recycling practices mean that it’s nearly impossible for most coffee shops to get a good clean stream of cups to the processor, as most waste haulers don’t accept cups. Led by Jennifer, Perk Eco is different; they are the hauler and processor in one. Using carbon offset couriers to pick up waste from participating shops Canada-wide, cups are transported to the Vancouver processing center, to be recycled into new consumer products in a truly circular process. With their 12 Canadian partners, the company has diverted over 14,000 pounds of waste from Canadian landfills.
