Joanne Perdue

Associate Vice President, Sustainability, University of Calgary

Building on 30 years in high performance green buildings, Joanne has set a precedent for sustainability leadership on Canadian university campuses and created a cleantech learning lab for the wider community. Playing a direct role in the development of the University of Calgary’s Climate Action Plan, Joanne is putting the campus on track to be carbon neutral by 2050 with a 33 percent carbon reduction and over 75,000 tonnes of annual emissions reduction as of 2020. Completed projects over the past two years have provided over 10,000 tonnes of carbon reduction, with 13,000 more tonnes to be realized through projects under construction. Students also benefit from using the campus as a lab, with over 800 students participating in learning lab projects to advance sustainability in 2020.
