Jodie Hon, P.Eng
Community Energy Consultant, Coast Build Consulting / Iron & Earth
On Haida Gwaii, Jodie led the installation of five air-source heat pumps and a geo-exchange system into the island’s largest community building, part of the Haida Nation’s push to go off-diesel by 2030. The project is expected to cut energy use by 164,000 kWh a year, save more than $11,000 in utility bills, and avoid 9,500 litres of diesel annually. Off the jobsite, she single-handedly built a climate mentorship program at Iron & Earth that has delivered over 180 sessions between 96 mentees and 21 mentors, and launched a Climate Career Portal now used by more than 55,000 people. She still finds time to teach youth about climate mitigation directly, introducing ideas as precisely as heat pumps.
