For over a decade, John has been proving a technology company can also keep bees. Under his leadership, Baka Communications built Canada’s largest solar-powered EV charging carport, offered free public charging to more than 10,000 vehicles, and achieved 100 percent fleet electrification alongside device recycling programs that keep old electronics out of landfill and back into circulation. He plants a tree for every device sold or recycled, maintains pollinator habitats supporting more than 500,000 bees, and converted a commercial property into a 4,000-square-foot solar greenhouse, Toronto’s first rezoned from commercial back to agricultural use. At home, 21 solar panels and a 20-kWh battery generate nearly 10,000 kWh a year, exporting surplus to Ontario’s grid at peak demand.
