Justin has led teams at the City of Kitchener, one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada, to implement sustainability into all city operations and community development.
His leadership efforts resulted in energy-efficiency projects that saved ~195,000 kWh of electricity and 8,382 KGs of CO2 in 2020 alone. Additionally, 75% of new buildings between 2019-2020 were infill developments, increasing density and avoiding urban sprawl.
The creation of a new 17-hectare park has reached a major achievement in water conservation by retaining the first 25mm of rainwater on site, storing up to 2,500,000 litres to later infiltrate back into the ground. These conservation efforts significantly increased the biodiversity and resiliency of the City.
