Karen Clarke-Whistler
As TD Bank’s Chief Environment Officer, Karen Clarke-Whistler directly developed and leads TD’s environmental strategy. The strategy’s magic is that it calls for the environment to be embedded across all aspects of the bank through 4 pillars: reducing operational footprint; developing green products and services; responsible financing; and engaging employees and customers in the environment. Two recent accomplishments highlight her impact: 2012 development of TD Forests, a major environmental initiative aimed at growing forest areas and radically reducing paper use; and the 12% reduction in TD’s GHG intensity despite a 24% increase in real estate footage in 2011 compared to 2008. Karen has been a key advocate for building TD’s renewable financing, which now stands at close to $4 billion.
