Continuing to drive Cascades’ environmental legacy forward, Mario has instituted such policies as offering employees $2,000 to buy an electric vehicle and driving product development through an environmental and sustainability lens. Mario actively supports the company’s sustainable procurement program which encourages suppliers to be evaluated and rewards leaders with a 5-10% advantage. Cascades’ 20 energy engineers have contributed to reducing GHG emissions intensity by 50% since 1990, and Mario has committed the company to a drop a further 7% by 2020. Last year, Cascades recovered 76% of its manufacturing waste for reuse, and 42% of the company’s energy use is from renewable sources.
