Mark’s played a critical role in advancing climate action for nearly 40 years, amongst other things as the architect, negotiator, and implementor of the Countdown Acid Rain program, that led to a 70% reduction of acid gas (SO2 and NOx) emissions in Ontario between 1986 – 1994, and the Canada-US Acid Rain agreement of 1990. He was also a joint decision maker, negotiator and implementor of Blue Box/ Multi-material recycling in Ontario in 1985, that diverts approximately 1 million tonnes of materials a year from landfills. Additionally, Mark served as the Executive Director of the Clean Air Renewable Energy (CARE) Coalition between 2000 and 2010. CARE lobbied for and received $1.5 Billion from the Federal government as a production incentive of 1 cent/kwh, which kick-started the utility scale renewable energy industry in Canada, directly contributing to 9863 MW of wind energy capacity and 1835 MW of photovoltaic solar power being installed between 2000 and 2015.
