Maya Colombani

Chief Sustainability and Human Rights Officer, L'Oréal Canada

Revolutionizing beauty is no small feat, but for Maya, it’s all in a day’s work at L’Oréal Canada. With her 28 sustainability experts from across the value chain, they drive the brand’s three-pronged approach, tackling transparency, accelerating the implementation of innovative product and packaging, and circularity, and have issued in a new era of honesty, enabling consumers to quickly assess a product’s environmental impact with an “A to E” labeling system. Maya’s guidance has propelled L’Oréal to promote refillable products and reinforce an EcoDesign approach across 97% of the portfolio, even in merchandising. She’s also led a solution for products such as makeup that are difficult to recycle: Customers can now drop these products off for recycling at over 600 locations across Canada. The circularity initiative proves that sustainability is a key expectation and a driver for consumers, boosting customer retention by 10%.
