Mayor Dorothy McCabe, MPA
Ask Dorothy about her biggest climate win, and she won’t point to a ribbon-cutting; she’ll point to moving Waterloo’s climate program out of planning binders and into funded, on-the-ground action. Under her leadership, the city has expanded its tree canopy and shade features to cool neighbourhoods, built climate risk into stormwater planning and asset management, and grown its trail and e-mobility network as a real alternative to driving. Waterloo’s Climate Action Reserve Fund now backs three formal climate action plans, and staff are building carbon impacts directly into how budget and procurement decisions get made. Dorothy has also steered development toward projects like Generation Park, built to LEED Silver and Zero Carbon Building standards, so Waterloo grows taller instead of wider.
