Michael Green
Considered the world champion of sustainable tall wood building construction, Michael has challenged the understanding of sustainable architecture by demonstrating that tall wood buildings are significantly more sustainable than concrete and steel buildings, and are safe at heights unimagined before. In the process, he has reshaped the position of wood structures in the global building community, dramatically increasing the use of carbon neutral natural building materials and furthering the conversation about forest management practices and third party certification of wood products.
His award-winning WIDC building in BC is the world’s tallest commercial wood building, at six stories and 29.5 meters high, and is made of younger lower grade trees from sustainable forest practices.
In addition to environmental advocacy and his award winning practice, Michael founded the not for profit Design Build Research School where students of all ages can participate in the design and construction of community projects.
