Mike Savage
Mayor Mike Savage is at the heart of Halifax’s transformative climate action efforts, steering the city towards a sustainable future. Under his leadership, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) has embarked on an ambitious journey to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 through the HalifACT plan—a bold framework consisting of 46 actions, unanimously approved by the Regional Council in June 2020. This plan is supported by a dedicated 3% municipal tax, raising over $18 million annually for climate initiatives. Significant strides include the redevelopment of the Cogswell Interchange into a green, high-density district with a new transit hub, cycling lanes, and energy-efficient housing. Additionally, HRM’s electric bus and ferry fleet project, coupled with extensive EV charging infrastructure, showcases a commitment to significantly cutting energy use and fuel consumption. Mayor Savage’s forward-thinking approach not only accelerates Halifax’s path to sustainability but also reinforces the City’s role as a model for climate resilience and action.
