Mike Winterfield

In 2020, Mike pivoted Active Impact Investments’ strategy to focus exclusively and “unapologetically” on climate technology. Since then, he has seen his firm grow into Canada’s largest climate tech seed fund, with over $70 million raised from notable institutions including Export Development Canada, Fondaction, Vancity Credit Union and the Toronto Atmospheric Fund. At the time of writing, Active has made 15 climate tech investments across four categories: clean energy & transportation, smart infrastructure, sustainable food & water, and circular & sharing economy. In 2021, the portfolio combined to drive 150,000+ tonnes of CO2e emission reduction, treat 2.8 million litres of wastewater, divert 8000+ tonnes of waste from landfill, and generate 150,000+ megawatts of clean energy!
