Within a few years of launching his “Intelligent Buildings and Cities Lab (IBCL)” in 2019, Mohamed secured >$1M in research funding to prioritize projects leveraging AI to optimize the interactions between occupants and buildings (minimizing energy use, while maintaining or improving comfort). Thus far, he’s trained 7 PhD and 8 MA.Sc. students, published >70 peer-reviewed journal publications and conference papers related to energy efficiency in buildings, with a special focus on the role of occupants and operators and was one of the prime organizers of the 5th International Conference on Building Energy and Environment (COBEE 2022), which drew more than 1000 international participants.
