Selling products or services door-to-door is challenging. Selling ideologies door-to-door is super sales. But, especially in the resource-rich BC interior, selling climate action is both intellectually and emotionally taxing. This is why Montana deserves so much credit. She and her organization have pioneered a deep engagement project that uses the most lasting form of persuasion, deep canvassing (talking to 900+ people at their doors and on their phones) to build support for the clean energy transition in heavy-industry rural communities. As a result, annual sales and temperatures are both hitting record highs: The hottest July on record in BC – and the 15,000 residents and 120 businesses Montana and her team have “sold” in turn convinced eleven local governments to commit to 100% clean energy by 2050. In rural BC, that’s a record-setting performance
