Shannon Phillips

NDP MLA, Alberta Legislature, Alberta Legislature

When Rachel Notley’s NDP led the Government of Alberta, Shannon was Environment and Climate Change Minister, leading the Climate Leadership Plan, the Renewable Energy Procurement policies, and Alberta’s largest investment in Parks in recent memory. Alberta’s coal phaseout is among the largest single reductions of GHG emissions in Canadian history and is paired with billions of dollars in new private sector investments in renewables, using a market-based, competitive procurement that ensured low costs while creating thousands of jobs. Shannon also expanded the Parks system with $250 million in new infrastructure, establishing the Castle provincial parks in the province’s south and the world’s largest boreal protected area in the north.
