Stephen Bacchus

Transit fleet accounts for roughly 70% of Mississauga’s corporate GHG emissions. To tackle this, Stephen has championed the shift and quickly pivoted from a predominately diesel bus fleet to a low- and zero-emission fleet. Stephen’s strategic business case for a $360 million funding request led to the largest single-year bus acquisition in Mississauga’s history, significantly reducing emissions and setting a bold goal for a zero-emission bus fleet by 2050. On September 18th 2024, Council approved the purchase of 10 hydrogen powered buses – a first in Ontario and largest fleet in Canada! Stephen is a visionary leader whose commitment to prioritizing climate action has paved the pay for a cleaner and more sustainable future in public transportation.
