Office of Climate Change, Energy Efficiency and Emissions Trading, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
Following extensive province-wide consultations with external stakeholders, the Office created two new strategies for climate change and energy efficiency that set the ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2010 and 10% below 1990 levels by 2020. In the face of a 63% increase in economic growth, the Province beat their 2010 emissions target by 4%, achieving the lowest levels since 2000, and are on track for greater gains.
