Gathering information to help convenors plan regional Clean50 gatherings

Clean50 Contact Data Update AND Interest in a Local Chapter

With over 1,000 Clean50 members now, we’re looking at encouraging local “chapters” to form, for a chance for pure networking and / or short presentation and networking, as a way for people to connect with their brilliant Clean50 colleagues (and their guests of comparable seniority and brilliance) locally, and enhance opportunities for collaboration as well as to connect Clean50 members locally to those outside their award year. We now have 198 members in BC, 60+ across Atlantic Canada, 485 in Ontario (mostly Greater Toronto / Ottawa) , and 199 in Quebec (Montreal / Quebec City) – we think, because we never tracked home cities for Clean50 winners. But 98% of our members are based in or sufficiently near one of the cities listed below. So we think there’s an opportunity to make Clean50 membership more useful.

It has been our usual practice to try and restrict attendees to either senior leaders or exceptional / emerging leaders, and to charge for guests, to dissuade people from showing up with either a lot of extra guests – or a slew of juniors. But that’s YOUR call – and we’ll go with the majority…

Read the email for our thinking, but three thoughts are guiding this question: Do we go for a sponsored event and force conveners to take on a lot of extra work? Or do we choose venues where we can get a private room / area, and people can pay their own tab. which makes regular meetings much easier. The second thought is that experience shows that people are less likely to commit – and then no-show – if they have paid for a ticket… Finally… Let’s agree that “FREE” is the opposite of “sustainable”. If you wouldn’t be prepared to cover the cost of your own food and drink one way or another, to spend an evening connecting with brilliant colleagues, we’re left to question how much value you would place on the effort it takes to pull these together.

Content(Required)

“Networking only” would include an opportunity for sponsors to make brief remarks at some point during the evening. “Content + Networking” would include a guest speaker / speakers on a timely topic. Given the breadth of interests for Clean50 members, finding a topic of interest to everyone is difficult, but perhaps a specific project someone had completed locally.
