Tapestry Team
Community bonds used to be a niche tool for Ontario energy co-ops, until Tapestry Community Capital turned them into a national financing model. Since January 2024, Ryan and Mary have co-led the mobilization of more than $55 million from over 2,000 retail and institutional investors, part of a cumulative $150 million that has funded roughly 800 affordable housing units alongside renewable energy and community infrastructure projects in Ontario, Quebec, BC and Nova Scotia. Knowing big institutional investors wanted a thread into community-owned clean energy and affordable housing, but lacked a way to weave them in, Mary and Ryan launched it, literally naming it Weave. Weave Community Capital Fund then stitched together a portfolio of community bond issuers into one investable vehicle, reaching its first close of $7.5 million toward a $30 million fund. Meanwhile, their 40-member Canadian Coalition for Community Capital keeps the whole pattern aligned nationally.
