Lindsay Bennett

Executive Director, Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE)
Tidal energy in Canada is finally getting a green light, and the FORCE team is helping drive it forward. They lead FORCE's $8.2-million Ocean Sensor Innovation Platforms project with partners from around the Bay of Fundy and sat on the federal task force that shaped Canada’s new regulatory approach to tidal power. That work led to the country's first authorization under the new framework, backing a 16.5-megawatt project between Eauclaire Tidal and Orbital Marine Power at FORCE's test site. Along the way, they brought more than 40 Atlantic Canadian suppliers into the tidal supply chain and invited deeper Mi'kmaw involvement. They have also reached over 30,000 people through talks, site visits and a documentary that’s made waves of its own, racking up 2.4 million views.

Lindsay holds FORCE’s many moving parts together, turning her collaborative leadership into real partnerships with Natural Resources Canada, the Province of Nova Scotia, Acadia University, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada and many more. She co-chairs the federal Task Force’s Risk and Monitoring Working Group and has rebuilt FORCE’s institutional backbone from the ground up, from new senior scientific staff to an independent Board of Directors.
