Tidal energy in Canada is finally getting a green light, and the FORCE team is helping drive it forward. They lead FORCE's $8.2-million Ocean Sensor Innovation Platforms project with partners from around the Bay of Fundy and sat on the federal task force that shaped Canada’s new regulatory approach to tidal power. That work led to the country's first authorization under the new framework, backing a 16.5-megawatt project between Eauclaire Tidal and Orbital Marine Power at FORCE's test site. Along the way, they brought more than 40 Atlantic Canadian suppliers into the tidal supply chain and invited deeper Mi'kmaw involvement. They have also reached over 30,000 people through talks, site visits and a documentary that’s made waves of its own, racking up 2.4 million views.
Melissa brings relationships to a process that runs mostly on data and permits. At the Atlantic Policy Congress, she has made Mi’kmaw Rights, Knowledge and fisheries realities central to the sector’s evidence-led pathway from the start. Her work connects tidal development directly to Mi’kmaw leadership and fishing communities.
