Celebrating Canada’s Sustainability Heroes

Accelerating collaboration towards a job-rich, cleaner, healthier, innovation based low-carbon economy supporting all Canadians

The hunt for the 2022 Clean50 is over – and the Clean16 List for 2022 was announced on September 16th!  The remaining 34 members of the Clean50, the Emerging Leaders, the Top Projects, and the Lifetime Achievement Awards for this cycle will all be announced between now and October 1st – so keep checking back for updates – or sign up for our newsletter! Winners will meet at the Clean50 Summit 11.0 in Toronto on October 1st, 2021, at which point the Top Project of the Year will be chosen, and winners of these special awards: the HP Canada Award for Leadership in Sustainable Procurement, The Telus Award for Community Engagement, and the Vancity Community Champion Award, will be announced.  Check back on October 4th to see who prevailed!

Announcements of the Winners of the 2021 Clean50 Awards were delayed from October 2020 due to Covid19, but announced during Earth Week 2021 and appeared in the Globe & Mail’s Report on Business that same week, along with 12 other pages of Clean50 content.  Due to COVID 19, The Clean50 Summit 10.0 and the celebration of this year’s Clean50 honourees was also postponed, and will be in-person gathering on September 30th 2021.

All attendees and support staff at both Summits will be fully vaccinated, have had a negative PCR test between September 28th and the Summit, and again test negative in a rapid test before entering the venue, and remain masked except when consuming food.

Feel like we left someone off the list?   Tell us about them!   The short nomination form takes 30 seconds to complete, and functions year round.  Nominees entered before May 2022  will be contacted in May to respond to their nomination.

The Clean50 Individual awards are selected from 16 diverse categories that transcend industries, academia, different levels of government, thought leaders and advocates, and are based on accomplishments delivered over the prior two years.

The leader in each of the 16 categories is also declared to be part of the Clean16, depicting those 16 Honourees as the top contributor in their respective categories.

The Clean50 Emerging Leaders are selected from amongst those under age 35 whose contribution is outsized compared to their age, and otherwise based on essentially the same criteria as the Individual Clean50 awards.

Top Projects

The Clean50 Top Projects annually recognize those projects completed in the prior two years based on their innovation, their ability to inform, and inspire other Canadians. The Top Project of the year is then selected each year at the Clean50 Summit, from votes cast by both incoming and Alumni members of the Clean50.
