The people who make a difference

Imagine the power of the highest tides in the world. Now envision a new technology that harnesses that power to create renewable, predictable and sustainable energy. Cape Sharp Tidal has achieved just that. The partnership between turbine designer and manufacturer OpenHydro and energy company Emera Inc. is developing a demonstration project in the Bay of Fundy. So far – using an in-stream tidal turbine successfully deployed in 2016 – they’ve captured 2MW of the estimated 2500MW of extractable power in the Minas Passage. What they learn will change global understanding of how to safely, responsibly and economically generate power from our oceans.

The Clean50 Individual awards are selected from 16 diverse categories that transcend industries, academia, different levels of government, thought leaders and advocates, and are based on accomplishments delivered over the prior two years.
